In Hawaiian, the name Hokulea refers to Arcturus, one of the guiding stars which passes directly over Hawaii’s latitude, helping guide sailors to the island chain.Stars cross the sky from east to west. They are at their zenith when they appear to reach their highest point. Certain stars are known to Hokule’a (Arcturus) is a zenith star for Hawaii Island.
